It is all about card playing and my checkered relationship with it.

I remember as a youngster, at my momma’s knee
She always taught us right, as you will see
She taught us to play some crazy card games
With the deck of 52, we learned all the names
But I had trouble with the suits, you understand
I had trouble holding all those cards in my hand
Spades, hearts, diamonds, and clubs I cried
Isn’t there a way we can simplify?
CH: So I made a suggestion, this was my plan

Well, late last night, I took a walk downtown
Not really going anywhere, just rousting around
Of course, I ended up there in Duffy’s back room
and wouldn’t you know a card game started up real soon
Dealing out the cards was a woman named Respect
She shuffled a bit and let me cut the deck
Dealt the cards all round and we began to play
I remember her words to this very day
CH. She made a suggestion, she had a plan
She said we could all play a NO TRUMP hand
NO TRUMP hand, a NO TRUMP hand
I just want to play a NO TRUMP hand
NO, NO, NO, Well, AAAAAAAAH!
Bridge: Well, I never did really get along with the suits
With their lousy loud ties and their pointy-toed boots
Always seemed that they were up to no good
Trash talking all over the neighbourhood
I worked with the spades, but they never really dug me
I hung with the hearts, but they just want to hug me
I dug up some diamonds, but they all turned red
I picked up some clubs, but they beat me on the head
and I can’t deal with this anymore…
I look at the world around me now, and I see too many suits
They care about themselves, they don’t give any hoots.
Politics, religion and nationality
Divide us up with this artificiality
They only care about making more and more money
And after that they try to stroke a young kitten
We can put all these differences aside
We can all get onboard and enjoy the ride
CH. So I make this suggestion, here is the plan
